As I see it, the political right has been on the same trajectory since Nixon’s (in)famous “southern strategy” began in earnest, as an explicit political strategy, the pandering to racists and bigots for votes. That trajectory has led to contemporary conservatism, in which there is no ideology or program, but only an irrational hatred of liberalism. If you want to know the future of that trajectory, listen to Alex Jones. For him, President Trump is far too accommodating of liberalism.
