As to that quote, I agree with the first sentence. For the second, I would substitute 'non-rational' for "irrational:"
Based on that first sentence, irrationality is by definition something that detracts from survivability, whereas something 'non-rational' could help or hurt it. All beliefs are non-rational; beliefs can go from there to being irrational (i.e., counterproductive to survivability).
Osama bin Laden lacked the power that Trump had to do good or evil. I don't see where Trump ever used his power to enhance the survivability of our species. A case could be made that the anti-consumerist stance of fundamentalist Islam would enhance the material survivability of the species--though I do sincerely abhor all violence.
