For a non-coercive society "order" does come from a common acceptance of an organizing principle. Heretofore the 'organizing principle' of the U.S. has been a balancing of equality and liberty. To my mind, the current disorder is the unraveling of a society that is realizing the inadequacy of that 'principle’. I am convinced that to restore order to our society while retaining liberty and democracy we must recognize mutual respect as our ethic of justice, our organizing principle.
