Excellent point, I think, but I also think most philosophers have expressed their own indebtedness. Actually, they can't help but make references to other ideas, positions, etc., if not to specific individuals.

Contemporarily, the other side of the coin is more of a problem; people tie the validity of ideas to their originators/proponents as people. Ideas are valid or not regardless of anything about their originators/proponents as people.
