Excellent article: most people argue from positions defined by an emotional response to the issue at hand. The lazy attach those emotions to beliefs, which are by their nature immune from rational appraisal, and from those unassailable heights hurl invective against any who would dare to contradict them. Those who are not lazy look for information to support their emotionally determined positions.
As it happens, I have developed an economic paradigm that would reduce the problem of sustainability to the single variable of demographics. There would be no unemployment or poverty at any level of total output. There would still be no limit on income/wealth. We could at the same time eliminate taxes/public debt for funding government (all government, from central to local). Otherwise, there is little to recommend it.
