"Clear-eyed" and 'revolutionary' not being contradictory terms, there is this: "De-growth with Only Positive Effects" (here in Medium, but--for the benefit of any 'guest readers'--not behind the paywall). It is a macroeconomic paradigm that any nation can implement with its existing economic system. (At this point almost all nations--including China--have the same basic system.) In it demographics would govern total output, passively but effectively--among other positive outcomes for society, yet with no tradeoffs or burdens to be apportioned within society.

This idea needs advocates. [For the record, I--the originator of the paradigm--do have an M.A. in economics.]
