As long as notions of justice are based on beliefs, a 'just' society can only be the outcome of a "contest of power" (from Michel Foucault).

The alternative is ‘real justice’ (“Real Justice: Goodness without Limit,"a “4 min read” here in Medium). The ethic of real justice is mutual respect in effecting choices, which follows from the observation that human beings have no choice but to effect choices (from Warren J. Samuels).
