As I see it, what are called the 'culture wars' are an assault on Liberal society by non-Liberal elements within it and a defense of it by Liberals. Either we defend Liberal society or it will perish. [By "Liberal society" I mean one with democracy and the rule of law with maximizing liberty as its primary concern.]

That assault on Liberalism is the backlash from the assault on non-Liberal aspects of Liberal society that began in the 1960's: racism, genderism, classism, environmental disregard, etc. When under attack, to be a "conscientious objector" at least requires a rationale more profound than what this essay proffers.

It must be noted that we cannot win the fight to preserve Liberal society by adopting illiberal tactics. To win this struggle the ultimate 'weapon' would be an advance in our understanding of justice that would provide such astonishing practical benefits to all members of society that the other side would have no choice but to accept the Liberal point of view. For that, "Equality Is All We Need" (here in Medium).
